i have a deep passion and love of still life paintings. They convey so much about humanity without a single human on the canvas. So i set out to paint a still life focused on one of my favorite subjects: a classic BIKE jockstrap.

i had hoped to be revealing my limited edition "Tripdycheads" prints in this email. Unfortunately, after almost 2 months — and many back-and-forths with the vendor i thought i would be using — i'm having to start over in my quest for quality gay art prints.

Cataloging and recording your art today is an important part of the queer history of tomorrow. 

i’m an odd thinker.

That is to say, i’m a big fan of odd numbers — especially 1, 3, and 7.

i’m fascinated by the layers of symbolism behind everything in life — including numbers.

It began with a sketchbook — as is so often the case.

Then i realized, while it was still a hilarious image, it was actually a more layered concept, and i resolved to take that humorous concept and turn it into a substantial painting.

Artist commissions are an essential piece of an artist’s growth. But the process can be more like a roller coaster of emotions — with high joys and low doubts.

Of all the elements of art, color is probably my favorite because it is deceptively complex — layered, evocative, and, sometimes, manipulative.

And color has an important place in LGBTQ+ history, too.

Why the specific focus on peen in my dic pic series? It may surprise you i have reasons beyond my general attractions. 

So, i figured i’d use my inaugural Thursday Thoughts to discuss. 

Perhaps you are wondering, why “erostakles”?

What does it mean? Why such a strange artistic name?

The shortest and simplest answer is: It’s a persona; a conduit through which i can channel my most central emotions and desires.

Creative people throughout time have utilized various names and identities through which to exercise their creativity.

i am no different.

i chose “erostakles” for many reasons.
